Fall 2021 Groups

Why cfCommunities?

Jesus instructed his disciples in this way: “'And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’… ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these. (Mark 12:30-31 NLT).” Community Groups are a primary outlet for us to obey what Jesus has commanded.  Every believer has good works to accomplish (Eph. 2:10), and gathering with others on a regular basis is a great way to fulfill many of those good works. It can also help us build deeper relationships, greater accountability and a means to love and care for one another.

Why cfCommunities? So the church can be an irresistible community where every person can love and be loved, know and be known, serve and be served, celebrate and be celebrated.

“Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life” - A 10-week book study by Donald S. Whitney

Leaders: Melba Harris & Pam Russell

Open to Everyone / Sundays, 2:00pm @ 3410 / Begins October 3

“Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life” teaches us the practices commended in Scripture for knowing and experiencing God, and for helping us grow to be more like Christ. These practices can lay the path for a young Christian and also challenge even mature believers to encounter the transforming grace of God. Come join us on the journey!

“For Such A Time As This” -- A Study of Esther  /  Leader: Millie Kee

Open to Everyone / 5 weeks / Mondays, 6:30-8:00pm @ 3410 / Begins September 27

The book of Esther tells the story of how an orphaned Jewish girl became the queen of Persia and saved her people from a plot to exterminate them. Esther’s story is a part of a much larger story that begins with Abraham and leads to Christ and the church. We learn about God's providential care of his people, and that God can use ordinary individuals to accomplish his saving plan.

But, the book of Esther also tells us about how God continues to work now - to unfold his will in our lives and through seemingly insignificant events, to call people to himself. This is not just an old story, but a book of both history and literature. Together we’ll learn how to read Esther as both Scripture and story, and also how it can inform and transform our lives today.

“Unlocking the Heart of the Artist” -- A Book Study by Matt Tommey  /  Leader: Kim Keys

Open to Everyone / 8 weeks this Fall / Tuesdays, 6:30-8:00pm @ 3410 / Begins September 28

Are you ready to embrace your calling as an artist in God’s Kingdom?  That’s what this study is all about. This is an invitation to go on a journey and learn how to create being Spirit led, to receive healing and wholeness from wrong mindsets, and how to collaborate with God in your chosen artistic medium and in life. This is for visual artists, musicians, songwriters, authors of books and poetry, or any other creative bent. Let’s come together and learn how we can make room for each other in our giftings and use them for the glory of God in the Kingdom! We all are created in His image as creators! (This study will pick up after the holidays and continue in Spring 2022.)

“Get Out of Your Head” -- A Book Study in Philippians by Jennie Allen / Leader: Marti Smith

A Women’s Study / 6 weeks / Thursdays, 6:30-8:00pm @ 3410 / Begins October 7

Are your thoughts holding you captive? “I’ll never be good enough. Other people have better lives than I do. God couldn’t really love me.” Jennie Allen knows what it’s like to swirl in a spiral of destructive thoughts, but she also knows we don’t have to stay stuck in toxic thinking patterns. As she discovered in her own life, God built a way for us to escape that downward spiral. In Get Out of Your Head, Jennie inspires and equips us to transform our emotions, our outlook, and even our circumstances by taking control of our thoughts. It starts in your head. And from there, the possibilities are endless.

An Inductive Study of James  /  Leaders: Don and Jane Wikoff

Open to Everyone / 8-9 weeks / Sundays, 4:00-6:00pm at Wikoff’s home / Begins September 26

"The purpose of this potent letter is to exhort the early believers to Christian maturity and holiness of life. This letter deals more with the practice of the Christian faith than with its precepts. … He dealt with every area of a Christian's life: what he is, what he does, what he says, what he feels, and what he has." (J. Ronald Blue)

We will study the book of James, verse by verse, to try and reveal the truths that this wonderful little book has to offer for day to day Christian living.

This is an ongoing class through the school year for Men to participate in a deep, inductive Bible study through the Gospel of Matthew using teaching and materials from Bible Study Fellowship (BSF), an internationally known Bible teaching ministry. CF currently hosts a Women’s BSF group that has met for several years now; and this class would be a step towards establishing an official Men’s BSF Group also.

Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) - Group for Women and Children: The Gospel of Matthew

The study is 30 weeks to follow the school year

Thursdays, 9:30am -11:00am @ 3410 / Begins September 16

Our BSF Day Groups give women of all ages the opportunity to study the Bible in the safety of real relationships. Explore the meaningful questions of life, go deeper in their relationship with Jesus Christ and connect with other women in conversations about things that matter. Class members spend time in personal Bible study during the week. On the day of class, they join other women in a small-group discussion and also hear a teaching leader apply the truths of Scripture to daily life. You will receive comprehensive lesson notes on the passage you studied and lesson questions for the following week. Preschool children's program coming soon! (This study will pick up after the holidays and continue in Spring 2022.)
