Holding to hope when negativity is loud

The world has a way of flooding our minds with fear, anxiety, and worst-case scenarios. Turn on the news, scroll social media, or listen to the constant noise around us, and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Yet Scripture calls us to something radically different: “Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right… things worthy of praise” (Philippians 4:8).
Holding to hope doesn’t mean pretending things aren’t hard. It means choosing where our thoughts will dwell when they are. Biblical optimism isn’t confidence in circumstances—it’s confidence in God. It’s trusting that even when the world feels unstable, God remains faithful, present, and at work.
What we focus on shapes what we experience. When our thoughts are consumed by fear, our lives follow. But when we anchor our minds in God’s truth, hope begins to rise. Today, ask yourself: What has been consuming my thoughts lately? Then intentionally turn your focus back to the goodness and faithfulness of God.
Prayer:
God, help me fix my thoughts on You when negativity surrounds me. Teach me to hold to hope, trusting that You are still working in every situation. Amen.
