When Life Leaves You Empty (Ruth 1)

“In this chapter of your life, you may feel desolate…”

Ruth and Naomi knew the sting of loss. They buried their husbands, their dreams, and any hope of provision. Chapter 1 is raw—emptiness, disappointment, unanswered prayers. Maybe that’s where you are right now. A broken relationship, a closed door, a season of pain you never saw coming.

But notice Ruth’s choice. In her emptiness, she turned toward God, not away. She left Moab behind and walked into Bethlehem, the “house of bread,” trusting God would provide even when she couldn’t see how.

Faith doesn’t erase grief. It doesn’t make the waiting easy. But faith points us toward the God who redeems—even in desolation.

Reflection: Where do you feel most empty right now? What would it look like for you to turn toward God in that place?

Prayer:

Lord, when life leaves me empty, help me to keep walking toward You. Even when I don’t understand, remind me that You are the God who redeems. Amen.
