The drift towards insiders

Scripture: “Go and make disciples of all nations…” – Matthew 28:19
Every church, if it’s not careful, naturally drifts toward insiders. We learn the songs, the routines, the systems — and over time, our focus shifts inward. It’s comfortable. Predictable. Safe. But that’s not the mission Jesus gave us.
The gospel is meant to move — outward, always reaching. The early church grew not because they had perfect systems but because they had boldness. They prayed big prayers and lived open lives. They didn’t let the comfort of community replace the call to reach the lost.
Boldness keeps the church alive. It reminds us that we once were outsiders, welcomed by grace. And when we remember that, we can’t help but want others to experience it too.
Reflection: Who are the “outsiders” in your world that God might be asking you to reach?
Prayer: Father, help me resist the drift toward comfort. Give me boldness to reach beyond what’s familiar and welcome those You’re drawing to Yourself.
