Scripture: Titus 1:16 (NLT)
“Such people claim they know God, but they deny him by the way they live. They are detestable and disobedient, worthless for doing anything good.”
One of the deepest wounds many carry isn’t from doubting God — it’s from being hurt by His people. The church is supposed to be a place of healing, grace, and truth. But when those who claim Christ live in a way that contradicts His character, it creates confusion, pain, and disillusionment.
Pastor Cory shared a bold but necessary truth: some people who call themselves Christians simply aren’t following Christ. Maybe they go to church, carry a Bible, or know the right words — but there’s no evidence of a transformed life. Their faith is cultural, not spiritual; external, not internal.
It’s hard to say. It’s even harder to hear. But Scripture doesn’t shy away from this reality. Titus 1:16 speaks directly to it: “They claim to know God, but deny Him by the way they live.” It’s not about perfection — it’s about direction. Real faith results in real change, even if it’s slow and messy.
If you’ve been hurt by someone who wore the label but not the love of Jesus — you’re not alone. And you’re not crazy. But hear this: don’t lose faith in Jesus because of someone who misrepresented Him. He’s not like the hypocrites. He’s the One calling them out.
And if you’re realizing you’ve been more label than disciple — today’s the perfect day to come back to the real thing. The Spirit of God doesn’t just change what we do; He transforms who we are.
Prayer: Jesus, help me never settle for appearances. If I’ve claimed Your name without living Your way, I repent. And if I’ve been wounded by others who did, help me separate their actions from Your truth. Lead me into genuine transformation. Amen.
Such an important reflection to keep in our hearts and minds.
