From Foreign to Family (Ruth 1–4)

“Her identity changed as her faith grew…”
Ruth’s story is also about identity. In chapter 1, she called herself a nochriyah—a foreigner, an outsider. In chapter 2, she saw herself as lower than a servant. By chapter 3, she identified as a servant, belonging but not entitled. And in chapter 4, she became an ishah—a wife, part of the family, an heir to the blessing.
That’s the story of redemption. In Christ, we are no longer outsiders. We are children of God, co-heirs with Christ, and beloved members of His family (Eph. 2:19).
Maybe you’ve believed the lie that you’ll never belong, that you’ll never be good enough. But in Jesus, your name is changed. You are redeemed, adopted, and deeply loved.
Reflection: How do you see yourself? Do your thoughts about your identity align with what God says about you?
Prayer:
Jesus, thank You for redeeming me and giving me a new identity. Help me to live as a child of God, secure in Your love. Amen.
